I have a water softener and I have no problems like yours. I had some discs explode on me in the past (not for at least 6 months now) but only when I opened the door, never while brewing. I think they were always Seattle's Best if I recall which I don't get anymore. I now drink SB until the run out and my wife drinks MH. Are there some brands that do not make a mess or have you only brewed MH and Gevalia? I know we brew MH French Roast and Morning Blend daily without issues. I do have a couple of filters in my house, one is a whole house filter after the softener, and the other one filters water at the sink for drinking. Not sure if this makes a difference but I do have them.

Anyway, long post just to say that no, a water softener should not be the cause. If you are getting a mess each time you brew then I would ask for a new machine. Good luck!!

Could be a batch of bad discs. In my case I was able to exchange my 'bot.

Everytime I brew a cup of MH or Gevalia coffee I get a full cup of coffee grounds. What is the problem? At one point customer service told me that sometimes water softeners will cause this to happen. WELL HELLO I HAVE HARD WATER AND NEED A WATER SOFTENER!!! Figure something out. I want to brew coffee and drink it NOT EAT IT!
