Not good and expensive... WoW a winning combination.
I also saw that Nescafe has a whole new like of instant coffee much like the SBux Via; however, you can get 20 packets for 2.99 or so. I've been tempted to try the Colombian or Hazelnut.

Yogi, I totally understood your original analogy. I agree, you will have to prove to me that those fine coffees will taste the same coming from a K-cup. I don't have a Keurig and really don't plan on getting one, so Probably I will never know
And yes, instant Starbucks is already here - and it's not good

No one said anything about the coffe brands being sewage (Remember the "fine wine" reference?) ... but then I am not surprised at the failure to read for content and simply reacting knee-jerk style.
The reference was to lowering the quality of the decent product, it is the deliberate choice to lower the quality of the finished cup (ala instant K-Cup). Putting a fine product (be it Dunkin' Donuts or Stabuck's) through a K-Cup is like using a fine thoroughbred to pull a pony cart because the owner simply doesn't know any better.
Doug, you made the same point. If you want to say that those (apparently quality) brands you listed have opted to also lower their standards, to settle for their final product as prepared by the consumer to be inferior, I would agree. It is a poor brand management choice.
I laugh at this. What would you expect them to say, "It's swill?": "Starbucks has found a way to offer a truly great cup of coffee that you can prepare by just adding water. Other instant coffees taste flat and lifeless. Starbucks VIA® Ready Brew is different – it's full-bodied and flavorful, just like the Starbucks© coffee you know and love." Seriously? "Ours is different, but every one else's isn't?" I did not realize they had already dropped to that level, but it clarifies their choice to go from "Premium" to "Mass market." This is a clear indication that SBUX has realized their time in the sun is passing, and they should grab the profit, at the expense of the product and it's quality, before it is too late.
Frankly, I blame the American consumer's palate, which appears to not be too discerning.

Yogi, I agree very much with you. Even though I like the Verona and the Kitamu very much I also think that most think as Starbucks as the only game in town. The Starbucks is more worry about the profit line right now than keeping up the quality of their coffee. And they already have the VIA for their instant solution.
"Starbucks has found a way to offer a truly great cup of coffee that you can prepare by just adding water. Other instant coffees taste flat and lifeless. Starbucks VIA® Ready Brew is different – it's full-bodied and flavorful, just like the Starbucks© coffee you know and love.
It's made with the highest-quality, ethically sourced 100% arabica beans. The magic is in a proprietary, all-natural process that we spent years perfecting. We microgrind the coffee in a way that preserves all of their essential oils and flavor. No other coffee company takes this step, and it makes all the difference.
We think it tastes just as good as any cup of freshly brewed Starbucks© coffee. And we bet you'll agree. Visit any US Starbucks store between Oct 2 and Oct 5 to take the Starbucks VIA® Taste Challenge. Let us know if you can taste the difference and receive a free tall brewed coffee for your time."
and not cheap at all, usually over a dollar per cup.
I also agree with the Gevalia and the Sig Blend... that is one big acquired taste for that one!

Green Mountain – Sewage? Dunkin Donuts – Sewage? Newman’s Own – Sewage? Caribou Coffee – Sewage? Emeril’s Coffee – Sewage? Millstone – Sewage? Folgers – Sewage?
Hardly, there is a reason that these outsell Gevalia’s t-discs, and it’s not because they’re sewage. BTW, which of these have you drank? While I can understand that not everyone likes Starbucks, there is a reason why Starbucks coffee shops have expanded the way that they have. Starbucks sells as well as it does because people like it even though it is fairly expensive.
Additionally, look around this forum, many here purchased their ‘bots because they wanted to brew Starbucks coffee at home.
The loss of Starbucks may be the death knell for Tassimo, I hope that it isn’t. Regarding sewage, there are those on this forum who feel that some Gevalia’s offerings fit that term well.

There is an Old Saying (another SBUX thread...)

There is an old saying, "If you add a gallon of fine wine to 50 gallons of sewage, you will have 51 gallons of sewage; and if you add one gallon of sewage to 50 gallons of fine wine you will still have 51 gallons of sewage."
So, Starbuck's has decided to add their gallon to the sewage. Short term profits at the expense of households making lousy coffee with the Starbuck's name. Well, the name is Starbuck's, after all, not Startaste. The priority has been established. What is next, Starbuck's freeze dried instant?
It probably won't hurt the Starbuck's brand much, the single serve market is too small, but it sure won't help their quality reputation to be brewed in single, albeit lousy, cups.
