Re: Good Morning - Can You believe it is already December?

I'm back from vacation! Just in time for the next big storm predicted for our neck of the woods. Generally, I've found that the storms they hype don't live up to the expectations, but to be on the safe side I did make sure that I'm prepared. This will be my first time, ever, living in an all electric home. If the power goes out, I'm sunk. No coffee, no hot meals, no heat, no computer - no work, no tv - no football, no elevator (I guess I can keep warm by walking up and down the six flights of stairs to the lobby). The storm isn't suppose to hit until late tonight or early tomorrow morning. So, I'm planning to make extra coffee and put it in a thermos - just in case. I also made a huge pot of spaghetti sauce. I'll transfer some of that to a slow cooker and let it simmer throughout the storm. If the power does go out, the sauce should stay warm for quite sometime. (my favorite comfort food - meatballs, sauce and bread for dipping). The best laid plans don't always work out. I chose to do my shopping yesterday - knowing that people would be crowding the store today. But, my aunt had to go to the store - so off we went. Off topic, but I have to rant about the price of green peppers. $1.99 a pound!!!! One green pepper for $2.37 was way too much. I ended up buying a jar of roasted peppers instead. Since it will go into a casserole, no one will know the difference. So, now I am home and mother nature can do whatever she choses. I'll just brew a cup of Seattle's Best and watch the snow accumulate.

We missed the sleet and rain, got all snow. All you southern people are missing out; a nice cup of hot coffee is better after shoveling.
Saying that made me feel better. =P

well ladies, i come to you from the grand state of florida where the temp here is cold...cold for me that is. it is 67 degrees.. the idea of stew and eggnog pie sounds really good. i just tried the twinings chai tea latte last night... it would go great with anything (i loved it!)...but with that pie... i bet i'd be in comfort heaven!

It sounds like you had a great evening Bea.
We had snow here also. Then sleet, then rain, then snow again. It was a mess. I was sure glad that I could sit back and enjoy a nice hot cup of coffee and snuggle up with a good book. I do enjoy the winter weather, but from the comfort of my easy chair looking out at it through the windows.

The northeast is battling snow today. Some schools, in our area, are closed. My company loved the beef stew; the eggnog pie; and the fact that they could select and brew their own choice of coffee or tea. It was fun to be with friends - especially those who enjoy a good game of scrabble. We called it an early night so that they would get home before the rain turned to sleet and the roads turned into an icy mess. What is your favorite menu for an informal get together? Which coffee; tea; etc. do you find that your guests like the best?

Good Morning - Can You believe it is already December?

No doubt we are all immersed in the hustle and bustle in preparation for the holidays. Stopping for a cup of good coffee to break up the hectic pace is a treat. I woke up to snow this morning. Not just a little snow, but big, white, saucer size flakes coming from the west. It didn't take it long to cover the ground and the roof tops. I am looking at a winter wonderland from my sixth floor windows. So here I sit. A cup of good coffee (Seattle's Best)at my side; wrapped in a quilt; my toes resting on the hearth of my electric fireplace/heater while reading the recent posts.
Instead of television for company today, I chose an FM station that is featuring holiday music.
There is a pot of beef stew simmering on the stove. Company coming tonight, so I also made an eggnog pie. It will go great with their choice of coffee. Kraft has several but this is one of THE best eggnog pie recipes. It is quick, easy, and foolproof.
10 Kraft Caramels 1 cup cold milk, divided 1 HONEY MAID Graham Pie Crust (6 oz) 1/2 cup PLANTERS chopped pecans, toasted 1 cup cold eggnog 2 Pkgs. (4 servings each) JELL-O Vanilla Intant Pudding and Pie Filling. 1 tup (8 oz.) COOL WHIP Whipped Topping, thawed, divided.
Microwave caramels and 1 Tbsp. of the milk in microwaveable bowl on Medium (50%) 30 seconds or until caramels are completely melted when stirred. Pour into crust; sprinkle with pecans.
Beat remaining milk, the eggnog and dry pudding mixes. Wire whisk 2 minutes or until well blended. This mixture will be thick. Spoon 1 1/2 cups of the pudding over pecans in crust.
Stir half of the whipped topping into remaining pudding. Spread over pudding layer in crust. Top with remaining whipped topping. Refrigerate at least 3 hours before serving.
I sprinkle a bit of nutmeg over the whipped topping just before serving.
As I said, it is quick, easy, foolproof, and a show stopper. A perfect end to a hearty stew meal.
I truly hope you have a great day and remember to take a few minutes for yourself. You deserve the break!
