NO, NO, NO!!!!! No lemon juice. Lemon may be tart due to the acid, but it is high in sugar, specifically fructose. The suger will gum up the heaters. Don't do it!!!!
There are plenty of acceptable cleaners, but generally the one recommended by most manufacturers of brewers is Dezcal. I bought my supply from: http://www.cw-usa.com/supplies-cleaning-cleaners-powdered-dezcal-packets-box.html
A 10 1-oz package goes for about $6.50, or you can buy a 100 1-oz package for about $45 (that would be a lifetime supply.) You must follow Bosch's directions in the user manual. Bosch's directions never tell you to use lemon juice.
But do not use vinegar, do not use lemon or any other juice.!!!

I have had the same frustration with lack of info and products to descale with. I am no chemist but when I saw the citric acid I started using lemon juice. i buy the big bottle of store brand lemon juice and run it through the machine with the cleaning disc. I have done this at least three times now since I got the Tassimo. It usually lasts for six months or more. My machine still makes great coffee. Hope this helps.
I need the rubber seal that goes under the t discs. Mine is worn out. I noticed my milk discs started leaking before brewing. Where do I get this part?

Just an FYI, vinegar should not be used to descale the Tassimo brewers - from the user guide: "Caution - Never use vinegar or vinegar-based products".

The cost for these from Amazon.com is a 4 pack for $5.95; the cost from BBB is a 4 pack for $5.99. I did some research and ordered from the following link of Coffee Wholesale USA, a box of 10 for $5.95. That's a pretty good price.

Happy hunting. BTW Tassimo Direct's own price is a 4 pack for 6.99.

After digging around the internet as I had considered the traditional vinegar route I had read that vinegar breaks up the lime and such in pieces whereas descaleing products totally dissolve them. Not a scientist but thought I would throw this out for thought.

My Tassimo quit when the red light came on indicating it needed descaling. I searched around the communtiy for a couple of days trying to find Tassimo descaling powder but could not. I then ordered it online from Tassimo for $6.99 plus and exorbitant charge of $8.95 for shipping one package.
The order was placed on 11/15/2010. On 11/19/10 I received an e-mail indicating that the order was shipped. The order didn't arrive until 11.27/2010. In the meantime I dug out an old coffee maker and bought drip coffee from the grocery store.
When it arrived I followed exactly the instructions on the packet for descaling. It didn't work. I wasted a packet of descaling powder. I then pulled out the manual and the directions were totally different. I followed them exactly and used up another packet (of the 4 supplied) and this worked fine.
I am very unhappy with the cost and length of time it took to get the descaling powder from Tassimo and the fact that by following the packet directions it caused me to waste one of the four packets. Tassimo e-mails me all of their ads but, in my opinion, their service and continuity and accuracy of directions (packet versus manual) stinks.

I am on my second Tassimo. There is always liquid left in the creme pod with the expresso, old machine and new. Service reps are not helpful. Trying to figure out what to use to descale and where to get it is very frustrating. I am switching to Delongi. Reading the problems everyone else has is an eye opener that this product does not work well and no support from customer service. Delongi is my next purchase. This one goes in the trash!

This is the first I've seen of anyone mentioning that on the forums, but thanks for the tip on how to deal with it!

Has anyone had problems after descaling with the bar code reader "fogging up" so to speak? My Bosch does this and will not read the bar code until I moisten my finger with olive oil and run it over the bar code reader then it seems to clear up and work ok for a while. Sounds crazy but my husband is a plastics engineer and cam up with this solution and it works!

Excellent points and suggestions, especially about listing the types of descaling solutions that will work.
As far the need to descale, I also live in an area with very hard water and even with the filter, I have to descale a lot on any coffee maker or iron or anything where I use tap water. I've been using a tap filter and that seems to have helped a lot. Before that I used reverse osmosis, drinking water in the gallon bottles.

I've had my machine since Oct. 17 and in late january the descale light came on. I descaled with a product called durgol (I bought it at BB&B) on Jan. 26. It says on the box special decalcifier for quality espresso machines of all brands. At first I thought it was too soon (it seems like I just got my machine) but I guess it was 3 months. I don't know if I have particularly hard water or not. I didn't think of using distilled water along with the durgol maybe I will next time.
I called customer service and they weren't helpful at all. They just said to use a decalcifying product. I asked if I could use the machine prior to decalcifying (so I could get my morning cup in before I went to the store the next day) and she said one day wouldn't hurt. But I didn't trust what she said because she didn't seem knowledgeable and I didn't want to waste a t disc in case the machine wouldn't work with that light on. It would be nice if they had a list of products to suggest when customer call because the manual says to buy it from Tassimo. They could simply say buy any descaling product recommended for coffee machines such as ...." Or post a list on the website.
I descaled as per the instructions in the Tassimo manual. The machine pretty much was on automatic once I pushed the button to start it.

I'm wondering if we've heard any more from Tassimo on this. I'd really like to use the white vinegar, as I always have it on hand, but I don't want to damage my Bosch machine. If anyone has an update on this, or has used white vinegar with the Bosch successfully I'd like to know.
I use my machine twice a day, my water is probably average in mineral content, and I don't want to be unable to make my morning mocha one day because the descaling light comes on. Someone said every three months is good for descaling; is that what others are finding too?
