I found that if I put the disc in before I turned on the machine, that I would have to first open and then close the lid. Apparently, my T45 expects to have the power turned on before I close the lid.

Sometimes if the barcode reader is not properly cleaned, you will get the flashing lights.

Edited, because I re-read your posting and this time realized you meant inside the brewer, not in the water tank.

Well, the water reservoir (the detachable contai8ner you put cold water in) does not heat up. But the Bosch unit I have has a small stainless steel holding tank inside, which, judging by the hardware attached to it, is designed to heat up water.

I must agree - I have a Braun and two Bosch brewers, and the tank never heats up on any of them. I assume the writer means the water fill tank?

Thanks, DOF!
I've often had all lights flash when the water reservoir is missing or improperly attached. I've learned to be careful when connecting the reservoir to the unit.
But the tank in my machine does heat up. I guess the tank has about a 10 oz capacity....enough for a single brew cycle. In anormally-functioning machine, the tank heats up as soon as you push the "start" button and the yellow LED starts to blink, indicating it's getting ready to brew. But in my case, pressing the start button starts all 4 LED's flashing, but it also activates the tank heater.
The heater normally shuts off at the completion of a normal brew cycle. But because my machine is currently unable to brew, the tank stays hot anticipating a brew cycle that never comes .
I can deactivate the tank heater only by switching the machine off.

I had exactly the same symptom on a machine that was but two days old.
My son, more mechanically inclined than I , discovered that it was due to the water reservoir not being firmly and completely seated, thus insufficient water reaching the system.
So, assumint that you have already checked the water connection, it may likely indicate a shortage of water supply, say from a blockage.
BTW, the water tank should not heat up. ">

Shame on you fanbelt LOL ; ) Actually its good to know someone was brave enough to take apart the machine. Glad to hear its quality inside those walls. I don't have an answer for how you can get the machine to pump water through, sounds like a blockage or circuit burned out.

Brewer Doesn't Work at All - All Lights Flashing

Let me preface this request for advice by saying that I've owned my Braun 3170 Tassimo Brewer for almost 3 years of regular service and have never descaled it! I know this makes me Worthless and Weak, and undeserving of a properly-functioning brewer. But, now that I see the error of my ways, I'm hoping that someone can advise me to help solve the problem..... When I fill the water reservoir and turn the system on, all 4 lights flash when I press the "Start/Stop" button. And nothing at all happens except that the water reservoir heats up. I'd called Tassimo customer service, and the gentleman I spoke with off-handedly told me that my system is out-of-warranty and is not worth fixing, and I should just buy a new machine. Based on many of your posts, I'm now not surpised by this attitude. But today I partially dismantled the machine, and I was quite impressed by the general build quality and the materials used.....much higher quality than you normally see in a consumer product. And the condition of all the internal components was quite good after all this time and use. I believe it would be a shame to toss out such a nice product without at least trying to find the root cause of the problem and trying to fix it. I assume that the problem may be at least partially due to my failure to de-scale the system. But now that I can't get it to pump liquid, how can I do that? If anyone out there has experienced this problem or understands the causes, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Many Thanks! John in NJ
