Have you tried to contact Customer Service to see if they have any thoughts as to the difference in taste? I wonder if it is possible that one of the machines is not working properly and not brewing the coffee long enough or brewing it too long?

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I don't doubt that the Bosch is a better-made and in many ways superior machine, but flavor-wise I was blown away by the Braun compared to my Bosch. I still enjoy the coffee made on my machine, but am just confused and slightly let down as to what's causing the difference in taste. Maybe some component inside the machine is contaminating the coffee? Would it be possible for the piercing unit (or specifically the rubber seal) to affect the flavor? I've completely disassembled it and got it as clean as it would be from the factory, but that didn't help.
I'm not trying to complain since I'm really happy with how convenient and well-made the machine is. I'm just trying to get to the bottom of the issue and see if I can do anything to improve the flavor. I've been drinking coffee for quite awhile and think I would be able to distinguish between the various blends (ex. the 4 Starbucks varieties), but the bitter/sometimes acrid taste seems to be taking away from that. Even though Seattle's Best wasn't/isn't my favorite, I was really impressed with how good their relatively cheap T-Discs tasted from the Braun.
If anyone has any further input or ideas, please let me know...Thanks.

Don't forget to factor in individual taste buds, too. I've only had a couple of cups of coffee from a Bosch and they tasted the way I would expect them to taste. Neither cup was espresso, so perhaps if that had been the case, I might have noticed a difference.
My old Braun just keeps chugging away and it continues to produce a good espresso, my usual drink of choice. That old machine has worked well with just replacement water filters and a new piercing unit. I have always used filtered water since we have it available, but that's the only concession I've made.

It's my experience that the Bosch is more powerful and much sturdier than my old Braun was. Thankfully on the Bosch there is no loose back lining along the back of the cup holder that dislodged on my Braun constantly, in the manufacture of the Bosch. However in my case & looking back, I'd have to say my older Braun was probably just not working to full capacity right from the get go. I just didn't know it then, I had nothing to compare it with and thought that it was doing what it was suppose to do. I was really confused when I read reviews of good froths & full flavored brews using the Tassimo Braun when I only got milk filled coffees with a hint of foam and weak coffees [that being expressos]. The coffees using my Braun also did not brew much past warm. If I had known then what I know now, in actually experiencing the difference between the Braun and Bosch, I should have asked more questions & sent the Braun back for replacement instead of putting it away. Although Gevalia coffees are still "not" my preference for taste, admittedly those coffees taste better and more full flavored when using the Bosch. The end result is the coffees brewed from my Bosch brew the coffees as I would expect the coffees to taste. Star Buck coffees for instance tastes like the coffees I would expect to taste from buying a cup from SB. And that can be broken down further to the taste differences between individual coffees such as Star Buck's African Kitamu, SB Verona, SB etc. But if your machine isn't working right none of the coffees will taste like you would expect them to. Not withstanding, all the fuss about Seattle's Best and I never before that time had a cup of Seattle Best coffee, bought T-disks, and really can't stand the coffees. To me Seattle Best tastes bittery and acidy. Recently, I had the occasion to actually visit a Seattle Best coffee house and ordered coffee, and was amazed, I still didn't like it for the same reasons above, but had to acknowledge it was the same stuff the Bosch brewed. Not to say it isn't a good coffee for those who love it, it's just not in my preference for a coffee ; ) I do love a full bold coffee, but prefer it to be smooth with low acidity. Like a good Kona or Mountain Blue. So some of this quandry can be a good part how well is your machine working, and a good part what coffees are in your personal taste preferences; both can vary.

I've heard a few others post your same exact experiences, so you are not the only one. I don't have an answer for you. I have had quite the opposite experience. Don't get me wrong my older Braun made a decent cup of coffee, although the flavor was weaker, more watery, than what my Bosch brews. That along with the fact that MH and Gevalia are just not in my preference for brands of coffees. I didn't realize when I bought my Braun that the coffee selections were largely based on the above two brands. I guess I just assumed like all the other single coffee makers being sold at that time that there would be just as good of a selection of coffees for the Braun as there is in the availability of pods or K-cups, etc. for other machines. Ok, that aside, I found the Braun to be much messier to use; if the back wall didn't fit just right and it often dislodged when coffee was brewing, I would end up with water all over when brewing a cup. Also, my braun was different than what most people experienced, in that the milks just didn't froth. I ended up with a little bit of foam but it dissipated in seconds. I became so frustrated with my Braun due to the selection of coffee T-disks available, and the small quirks that I ended up putting it away. Last year when SB(s) T-disks debuted I pulled out my old Braun to sample. Now I'm far from a SB fan, but found that coffee was more to my liking than the above. I acquired a taste for SB caps, lattes, Verona, and African Kitamu. At that point, when reading reviews that some of the quirks I experienced using the Braun were fixed on the Bosch, I decided to purchase my Bosh for home. I also believed at the time, seeing the availability of SBs that this was the start of some serious promotion that would finally bring on board more choices in brands of coffees. All in all, it has been my experience that my Bosch made a better cup of coffee, minus the mess, with a much better froth than my older Braun. I ended up buying a second Bosch for the office. However, my Braun experience may have been more an example of getting a machine that just wasn't working properly. In retrospect I realize more than likely what ever controls the force or pressure was off since the coffee was weak and the milks didn't froth. Most have had a much better experience with the Braun than I did. All is not lost, since my son who likes a plain cup of coffee likes the older Braun I gave him. By the way, I'm still waiting for the elusive T-disks in other brands to be made available or at least a refillable T-disk. My fingers and toes are cramping in the meantime ; )

Braun Coffee Tasting Much Better Than Bosch...Ideas?
Sep 7, 2010 12:53 PM

Hello Everyone -
I recently had a chance to compare the taste of some coffees brewed on my mother's Braun unit after using the same discs for awhile on my newer Bosch machine. Surprisingly, I found the coffee brewed with the Braun to taste much better than what's coming out of the Bosch. The Bosch coffee is much more bitter and burnt/almost chemical-like in taste compared to the smooth flavor from the Braun. The two coffees specifically in question are the Gevalia French Vanilla and Seattle's Best Breakfast Blend. I had no idea what I was missing until I tried the Braun - they actually taste good!
I've cleaned my unit as thoroughly as possible inside and out, including taking apart the piercing unit, replacing the Mavea filter, and descaling my unit as directed. However, the taste still hasn't improved. Using plain, unfiltered tap water as in the Braun didn't help either. I really love my machine but just wish it would make some better tasting coffee...It turns out the T Discs are much better than I thought!
I would really appreciate it if anyone has any insight or similar experiences to share. I called customer support but they weren't able to do or suggest anything other than what I've already done. Thanks in advance.
